Biography

Member of Global Artist Pension Trust and recipient of Grand Prix from Tiger Translate International Competition, young emerging talent, E.Lkhagvadorj was born in 1987 in Ulaanbaatar city. He began studying in Rajiv Gandhi Arts and Industrial Design School in 2002, then entered School of Fine Arts at the Mongolian University of Arts and Culture and graduated in 2010. During his academic years, he had experimented abstract, surrealist and photo realist paintings, improving his techniques and compositions and searching his own style.

In 2010 Lkhagvadorj began producing black and white hyper realist paints, depicting homeless people, who lived in ditches and garbage dumps of Ulaanbaatar city. Their alienation from the society and extremely hazardous conditions had ached artist Lkhagvadorj. He depicted everyday lives of homeless people on the garbage spots and drunk-men, sleeping on the streets and market places, to appeal the attention of the society. He spent long time, exploring the condition; often interviewed and asked the permission to take their photos. When he started first production of his own style, he could not pick the color other than black and grey. Filthy faces and clothes of homeless people and their gloomy lives were too somber to be expressed in other colors. To directly speak up, artist Lkhagvadorj picked the hyper realist style for his works.

As the world of his main characters are completely isolated and separated from the customary society, artist Lkhagvadorj puts the goal to let these different worlds meeting each other through his work, with no fear and disgust. On daily life, most of us pretend not to see or afraid of facing the homeless, sleeping on the street or collecting waste food and bottles on the garbage spot. Artist Lkhagvadorj is willing to bring the attention of the audience to the world of the homeless

Lkhagvadorj is a recipient of a grant from the project “Promoting Democracy through Art” funded by Mongolian Contemporary Art Support Association and U.S. State Department in 2013, Grand Prix from Korean-Mongolian Joint Exhibition at National Modern Art Gallery in 2011 and Third Best Work Title from the North East Asian International Art Exhibition, Changchun China. His artworks have been exhibited in the best museums and galleries in home country and also in HK, China, Korea, Germany and Australia. In 2012, “Asian Art News”, famous international magazine, published 4-page article and news about the artworks of artist Lkhagvadorj.
