Ariuntuya Jambaldorj

Намтар

Ariuntuya Jambaldorj is neo-nomadic Mongolian artist, based in Ulaanbaatar. Her artistic practice incorporates videos, drawings, sculptures, collages, land art, and sitespecific installations and explores the experience of self-observation, existential questions such as life and death, the relationship between humans and nature, and the way it is changed over time. I often use words, phrases, and natural materials as medium for my works.

While cultures and philosophies of nomadic lifestyle often fascinates her, it became a source of inspiration. By exploring the tradition of tidying and restoring the land to its original state before moving onwards and the ways how nomads treated nature, she developed a passion for creating artworks using biodegradable natural materials such as paper, ink, cotton, wood, water, and the modern mediums such as video.

For her, nomadism is not just about moving seasonally from place to place and looking for fresh pastures. Ancient practices and philosophies behind that culture becomes main topic for her research. As an inquisitive individual, she explore the mystery of causes and effects also the signs of nature and the way nomads live , the methods of communicating with animals and nature, and many other interesting things. Ariuntuya Jambaldorj’s artwork creation practices become like a journey for her research.
